- Takeover of British India Steam Navigation Company by The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company agreed.

- Served as an Australian Expeditionary Force transport.

- One of the ships to take the first contingent of Australian troops to Egypt.

- Ran aground after leaving port for Gallipoli, Dardenelles, and thereby missed the first assault landing.

- While en route from Calcutta to Yokohama, she had an outbreak of fire in the cotton cargo while at Singapore. There was little damage to the ship, but some of the cargo was discharged.
