- Homeward bound in convoy from Bombay and Freetown to Manchester with 2,500 tons of manganese ore, 1,000 tons of rubber and 1,000 tons of tea and copra.

- Torpedoed south-west of Cape Clear by U662 (46°44’N-16°38’W). Although a large hole was blown in the starboard side, forward, she staggered on until a second explosion brought her deeper into the water and it was clear that she could not be saved. The crew abandoned the ship the following morning and were picked up by the escort. The Umaria was reluctant to sink and had to be despatched by gunfire. All 98 crew and ten gunners survived.
