- Delivered as Spirit of Free Enterprise for Townsend Car Ferries Ltd. First of three sisters, followed by Herald of Free Enterprise and Pride of Free Enterprise.

- Left builders for Zeebrugge.

- Arrived at Dover after trials at Calais.

- Maiden commercial sailing.

- European Ferries Group plc acquired by The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company.
