- Collided with and sank the Timaru fishing boat Bessie off Pareora. Three crew rescued.

- Collided with the tug Terawhiti at Wellington harbour, sustaining minor damage.

- Taken up for war service at the rate of £10 per day to replace the lost HMS Puriri.

- Commissioned with the 25th Minesweeping Flotilla after a refit at Port Chalmers. She was armed with one 4-inch gun, four machine guns and depth charges. Served in New Zealand waters until going to the Solomons in April 1943 to replace HMNZS Moa. Served with Comsopac (US Navy) on escort and anti-submarine patrols.
