- Launched by Mrs J Osborne, wife of the Director of Movements at the Admiralty.

- Delivered as Bacchus for the British India Steam Navigation Company Ltd, London. As she was under charter to Royal Fleet Auxiliary, she was painted in overall grey and there was nothing to show that she was a BI ship.

- Ownership transferred to The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company.

- Damaged in a collision with Frontier on leaving Limassol.

- Sailed from Chatham Dockyard for the Tyne for dry-docking at the end of the charter.
