- Registered as Umaria for British India Steam Navigation Company at a cost of £97,200. She and her sister Umeta made up the Company’s U-class.

- On arrival in India she was immediately pressed into trooping service.

- Trooped to Bahrein.

- Involved in the landings at Fao in which the Turkish fort was captured.

- She proceeded to Sanniya for the landings.

- She was stopped by the German submarine U65 in the Gulf of Policastro on her way from Calcutta to Britain. The Umaria fired her 12-pound gun at the submarine but it broke down after five rounds. A shell from the submarine wrecked the steering gear and the ship had to be abandoned with the loss of five lives. She sank that evening and the crew with picked up by an Italian patrol boat and landed at Sapri.
