- Order for 4 ships announced, developed from the Oriental Bay and Peninsular Bay sisters. Newport Bay was the third of the four to be delivered.

- Launched.
- 14.01.1993
- Completed as Newport Bay for P&O Containers Ltd.
- 20.02.1993
- Named at Hamburg by Mrs Catherine Newton, wife of P&O Containers Director Mr John Newton.
- 19.05.1994
- Rescued 114 people from ferry Al-Qamar Al-Saudi Al-Misri on fire at the mouth of the Gulf of Suez, later transferring them to a US Navy oiler also at the scene.
- 02.12.1995
- Capacity increased to 4,236 teu (248 refrigerated, 198 empty).
- 02.1996
- 43 damaged containers discharged at Malta after first leg of voyage Southampton/Yokohama.
- 31.12.1996
- P&O Containers Ltd renamed P&O Nedlloyd Ltd and reduced to P&O associate by establishment of P&O Nedlloyd Container Lines Ltd.
- 2004
- Ship transferred to Royal P&O Nedlloyd (P&O interest 25%).
- 06.2005
- The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation company sold their 25% interest to A P Moller Maersk and therefore the vessel was no longer in Group service.
- 2006
- Renamed Maersk Darlington.
- 2007
- Sold to Reederei Blue Star GmbH, Hamburg, Germany (Mediterranean Shipping Company SA (MSC), managers) and renamed MSC Darlinton. Still reported in service.
