Launched by Mrs A O Lang, wife of BI’s Managing Director.
22.12.1949
Delivered as Chandpara to the British India Steam Navigation Company. Maiden voyage London/Colombo/Madras/Calcutta.
14.01.1952
The Panamanian ship Liguria, chartered to the International Refugee Organisation, had left Bremerhaven for Australia with 950 passengers late the previous year and had broken down 725km (450 miles) from Fremantle. Chandpara took her in tow, arriving at Fremantle on the 17th.
03.1962/04.1962
Used as a floating Australian trade Exhibition in the Gulf, calling at ten ports.
17.09.1965/12.10.1965
Anchored at Muscat alongside BI’s Chantala to take on her Karachi cargo. The latter was bound for Bombay and because of the outbreak of the Indo-Pakistan War could not call at both countries.
30.10.1970
Sold to Jebshun Shipping Company, Hong Kong, and renamed Princess Ruby.
28.03.1971
Grounded outside Dairen and sustained heavy damage beyond economic repair in position 38°22’N-120°53’E.
10.1971
Sold to Chinese shipbreakers at Dairen.
