OTAKI still firing against the German surface raider MOEWE as she sank on 10 March 1917 during WW1. The Commander of MOEWE later recalled: 'Our situation is far from happy; the enemy lies there, refusing to sink, and firing shot after shot... Half an hour later, hammered and torn by our guns, but still firing, she sinks beneath the waves'.
