- Delivered as Surrey to the Federal Steam Navigation Company Ltd, London at a cost of £850,000.

- Suffered engine problems when she arrived at Melbourne with two cylinders out of action in the starboard engine, requiring a return to Britain on the port engine alone, a voyage that was further marred by having to put into Colombo for major generator repairs.

- Sold to British India Steam Navigation Company Ltd, London, and renamed Juwara.

- Had an engine explosion at Sydney which demolished two pistons and required another voyage to be completed on one engine.
