Delivered as Canara for British India Steam Navigation Company at a cost of £72,500. She was the first of the new C-class ships to be delivered with her sisters being Colaba, Chanda, Chupra, Culna and Chyebassa.

Takeover of British India Steam Navigation Company by The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company agreed.

Ran aground off Cave Point Lighthouse, Petite Riviere, Mauritius, but was refloated with minimal damage.

Nine months spent on charter to the French authorities.

Nearly missed being struck by a torpedo in the Mediterranean.

On a voyage from Baltimore to La Pallice she had to put back to port with damage due to weather stress.
09.08.1917
Struck by a torpedo from UC53 3 miles south-west of Cape Licosa, on her way from Naples to Oran in ballast. Through a valiant effort made by the crew, she was brought back to Naples, although there was a loss of nine lives at the initial explosion.

Re-boilered due to the original boilers weakening from the torpedo attack.

Sold for £3,250 to Paolo Treves of London.

Broken up at Italy.
