The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company acquired an interest in Grand Union (Shipping) Ltd.

Sold to Hindusthan Shipping Co Ltd, Calcutta (Juan R Mukherjee, manager) and renamed Baitarani.
1957
Renamed Savitri without a change in ownership.

Foundered in heavy weather near Shorn Island, Dhamra Estuary, Chandbali, Orissa, India whilst on a voyage from Calcutta to Chandbali with general cargo.
