- Fire broke out in No.5 hold beneath the explosives magazine whilst on a voyage from London to Khorramshahr with general cargo which included 170 tons of explosives, fuses and detonators.

- Anchored about 3.5km (2 miles) east of South Sitra Beacon, Bahrein, where about 75 tons of explosives were discharged into a barge whist attempts to extinguish the fire continued.

- Fire spread to the magazine and the subsequent explosion destroyed the after part of the vessel and much of the superstructure. As a result of the explosion, 53 members of the crew, including the master, and four men in a tug alongside lost their lives and the forepart finally sank.

- After being raised the forepart left Bahrein in tow of the Dutch tug Rode Zee bound for Italy.

- Arrived at Palermo en route to Catania where the forepart was broken up.
