- Registered as Baroda for The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. Baroda is a city and was also princely state in India, 400km north of Bombay, part of Gujarat since independence.

- Maiden voyage Southampton/Alexandria. She was described as being comfortable and ‘tubby’.

- Sailed from Southampton for Bombay, for Bombay/Suez service.

- Towed disabled Ottawa from Penang to Singapore (arrived 12 September).

- Some voyages to Hong Kong.

- Ran aground briefly in the Strait of Malacca but refloated without serious damage.
