- Delivered as Pride of Free Enterprise for Townsend Car Ferries Ltd, Dover. She was the last of three ships designed as the (then) largest on the Dover/Calais route. Made a record crossing in 52 minutes 53 seconds.

- Attended the Panamanian cargo liner Shofu on fire 25km (16 miles) east of Dover. The chief officer and crew members went aboard using the ferry’s hoses because Shofu’s fire fighting equipment had failed.

- Rescued four crew from the French training yacht Phoenix after their instructor was lost overboard in heavy seas 8km (5 miles) east of Dover.
