Leaf or shell shape, dessert plate of the "Caledonian" pattern with P&O insignia. The pattern registration date is July 21st 1846. Ironstone transfer-printed in green and produced in Stoke-on-Trent by Ridgway, Morley & Wear Co. Ltd (forebearers of Ashworth & Bros). This service was used on board P&O ships of the time and on the overland transit across Egypt. It's thought to be first known pattern of ironstone used by the Company.
