Completed. She was the first of four sisters (followed in little more than six months by Burdwan, Behar and Bhutan) intended for P&O’s accelerated Far East cargo service but under Hain management and manning as an economy measure.

Damaged in collision with Richmond Castle in position 01.30N 41.54W while en route from London via Trinidad and Table Bay to Hong Kong with general cargo, aeroplanes and horses.
21.07.1941
Sunk by gunfire from an escort ship to prevent her becoming a hazard to navigation.
