Painting the funnels onboard CANBERRA (1961); a team of 20 crew were required to abseil down the sides of the twin funnels. See Wavelength June 1984, No. 140. F/cover After first cleaning the funnels with 'sugi' - a mixture of soda, soap and water to remove the salt. Each man was responsible for painting one vertical strip of the funnel called a ‘fleet’.
