- Delivered as Norland to North Sea Ferries Ltd (North Sea Ferries, managers). She replaced Norwave on the Hull/Rotterdam service.

- P&O Ferries appointed managers.
- 17.04.1982
- Requisitioned by the UK Ministry of Defence for service with the Falklands Task Force and converted to a troopship at Portsmouth Dockyard.

- Sailed from Portsmouth carrying the Second Battalion of the Parachute Regiment.
- 21.05.1982
- Arrived off San Carlos Water where her troops were disembarked. Later used to carry prisoners-of-war to Montevideo and Puerto Madryn.

- Released from service.

- Arrived at Hull.

- Returned to service after being lengthened by 20.25m by Seebeckwerft AG. Now 26,290 gt, 5,560 dwt; 736 berthed, 290 unberthed passengers, 104 crew. Placed on the Hull/Zeebrugge service. Length o/a now 173.25m (568.4ft), draught 6.027m (19.8ft).
