A full hull, 1:60 scale model of the Wooden Paddle Steamer WILLIAM FAWCETT, thought to have been made for display in the P&O's Pavilion at the 1891 Royal Naval Exhibition in London.

The model is a beautiful example of an early exhibition model. It is full hull, masted and rigged. Made in wood with fine brass fittings and dyed cotton thread. The funnel and paddle wheels on either side are painted with red gloss paint. Gold paint has also been used to highlight some details such as the Irish harp on the paddle box.

The model is secured to a polished mahogany baseboard with two concealed screws and displayed in a later, glazed mahogany show case.

WILLIAM FAWCETT is traditionally regarded as “P&Os' first ship", and our model is still proudly displayed in our office today.
